Troubleshooting Procedure For Malfunction of Power Mirror Memory, Til and Fold-Away Function

Requirements
^ Fuse No. 2 and 8 OK
^ Mirrors can be adjusted using mirror adjustment switch
^ Power seat memory functioning
^ Applicable wiring diagram available

Test Equipment
^ Test box VAG 1598
^ Adapter harness VAG 1598/4
^ Adapter harness VAG 1598/13
^ Multimeter Fluke 83 (or equivalent)

1. Control modules, locations:
^ Control module for mirror fold-away function -J351-: Auxiliary relay panel located in passenger footwell E-Box, relay positions 10 and 15
^ Mirror memory control module -J267-: Behind driver's side "B" pillar trim.

2. Measurement at switch for Mirror Adjustment -E168-
- Remove mirror adjustment switch and disconnect harness connector.
- Connect adapter harness VAG1598/13 to Test box VAG1598, mirror adjustment switch harness connector and mirror adjustment switch.

Socket 3: 31 Ground
Socket 5: 15 Battery voltage, Ignition on
Socket 4: 15 Battery voltage, Ignition on, adjustment switch set to tilt left mirror (position "L")
Socket 4: 31 Ground, adjustment switch set to tilt right mirror (position "R"),use ohmmeter
Socket 1: 31 Ground, adjustment switch at fold-away function
Socket 2: 15 Battery voltage, Ignition on, adjustment switch at "tilt mirror down" pos.
Socket 9: 15 Battery voltage, Ignition on, adjustment switch at "tilt mirror up" pos.
Socket 8: 15 Battery voltage, Ignition on, adjustment switch at "tilt mirror left" pos.
Socket 10: 15 Battery voltage, Ignition on, adjustment switch at "tilt mirror right" pos.

3. Measurement at Mirror Memory Control Module -J267-
- Remove mirror memory control module harness connector.
- Connect adapter harness VAG1598/4 to Test box VAG 1598, mirror memory control module harness connector and mirror memory control module.

Socket 12: 30 Battery voltage
Socket 23: 31 Ground
Socket 4: 30 Voltage between 1 Vand approx. 12V when memory button is pressed
Socket 3: 15 Battery voltage, Ignition on, reverse gear selected

4. Correction Measures
- Check wiring harnesses for possible open/short circuit using wiring diagram.
- If specified values are obtained and mirror fold-away function is inoperative, replace control module for mirror fold-away function -J351-.
- If specified values are obtained and mirror tilt function is inoperative, replace mirror memory control module -J267-.
- If specified values are obtained and mirror memory function is inoperative, replace mirror memory control module -J267-.
