Checking Control Unit Coding

The VAG 1552 scan tool can be used instead of the VAG 1551, however no printout is possible.
Test Requirements:
- Battery Positive Voltage (B+) OK
- Supply voltage and fuses for respective system OK
- Ground (GND) connectors for transmission OK:
Check GND connections for corrosion and damage and repair if necessary.
Check TCM GND connection per wiring diagram.
Check battery GND strap and GND strap between battery and transmission.
- Selector lever in "P" position
- Parking brake applied
- Ignition switched off
NOTES:
- If nothing is shown on the display check the power supply to the DLC.
- Additional operating instructions can be obtained by pressing the HELP button on the VAG 1551 scan tool.
- Press the -> button to advance through the program sequence. => VAG 1551 scan tool operating instructions

Procedure:
- Remove cover for 16-pin Data Link Connector (DLC) to left of steering column.
- Connect VAG 1551 (VAG 1552) scan tool to DLC using adapter cable VAG 1551/3.

2 - Blink code output
1) Operating modes 1 and 2 are displayed alternately
- Switch ignition on.
- Operate brake pedal one time.
- Press PRINT button to switch printer on (indicator light in button comes on).
- Press button -1- to select "Rapid data transfer" operating mode 1.

Insert address word XX
NOTES:
- After address word 33 is inserted and confirmed with the -Q- button, the OBD program can begin. OBD functions => Testing and Inspection
- After address word 00 is inserted and confirmed with the -Q- button, the automatic test sequence can begin (the DTC memory for every system is checked). Stored malfunctions are displayed in sequence and printed out.

If "Control module does not answer" is indicated on display:
- A list of the possible malfunction causes can be printed out by pressing the HELP button.
After eliminating possible malfunction causes:
- Again press buttons -0- and -2- to insert "Transmission Electronics" address word 02.

If "Control module does not answer" is again indicated on display:
- Check power supply by conducting electrical test step 1. Testing and Inspection
- Check wiring connection to DLC.
- Check DTC table; DTC 65535, "Control Module Malfunctioning". [1][2][3]Engine Control System
- Press -> button.
Indicated on display:
