Control Module: Testing and Inspection

1998 Audi A8 Sedan (4D2) V8-3.7L (AEW)SECTION Testing and Inspection

NOTE: This check is to be conducted if either the output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) or electrical testing indicates a malfunction in the wiring between the transmission and the Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217-.

Test Requirements
- Ignition switched OFF
- Test box VAG 1598/20, or equivalent, connected to 88-pin transmission wiring harness connector





- Remove noise insulation.

Checking Wiring Connection To 16-pin Connector On Transmission





- Unlock bayonet lock -4- of 16-pin connector to transmission by turning it (remove bracket -1- for noise insulation if necessary).





- Check wiring connections for continuity (using multimeter) between terminals of 16-pin connector and sockets of test box VAG 1598, using the following connector pin specification table.






Checking Wiring To 8-pin Connector For Multi-function Switch





- Remove spring-clip lock -2- from harness/multi-function switch connector.





- Check wiring connections for continuity (using multimeter) between terminals of 8-pin connector and sockets of test box VAG 1598, using the following connector pin specification table.
