Scan Tool Connecting and Initial Checks

VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST), Connecting And Selecting Function


NOTE: The VAG 1552 scan tool can be used instead of the VAG 1551, however no printout is possible.


Test requirements
- Battery Positive Voltage (B+) OK
- Supply voltage and fuses for respective systems OK
- Ground (GND) connectors for transmission OK
- Check GND connections for corrosion and damage and repair if necessary.
- Check TCM GND connection per wiring diagram.
- Check battery GND strap and GND strap between battery and transmission.
- Selector lever in "P" position
- Parking brake applied
- Ignition switched off
- Remove cover for 16-pin Data Link Connector (DLC), to left of steering column.







- Connect VAG 1551 (VAG 1552) scan tool to DLC using adapter cable VAG 1551/3.


NOTE:
- If nothing is shown on the display, check the power supply to the DLC.
- Additional operating instructions can be obtained by pressing the HELP button on the VAG 7557 scan tool.
- Press the -> button to advance through the program sequence.

1) Operating modes 1 and 2 are displayed alternately

- Switch ignition on.
- Operate brake pedal one time.
- Press PRINT button to switch printer on (indicator light in button comes on).
- Press button -1- to select "Rapid data transfer" operating mode 1.

NOTE:
- After address word 33 is inserted and confirmed with the -Q- button, the OBD program can begin.
- After address word 00 is inserted and confirmed with the -Q- button, the automatic test sequence can begin (the DTC memory for every system is checked).
- Stored malfunctions are displayed in sequence and printed out.
