Fuel Pump
Fuel pump is located in fuel tank. A 2-stage pump is used with a vane-type pump at bottom of pump assembly, and a gear-type pump directly above vane pump. See Fig 1 and Fig 2 . The vane pump draws fuel through a screen into an accumulator. Accumulator surrounds fuel pump. Vane pump acts like a transfer pump. Excess fuel is returned to fuel tank through a vent in accumulator.
The gear pump draws fuel from bottom of accumulator through a screen. Fuel is then forced through pump housing out the top to fuel injection system.

When to See a Mechanic
