1996 Audi A4 Base, StandardSECTION Preparation

Test results are dependent on correct operation of several related non-ABS components and systems. Check following before attempting to diagnose ABS system.

  1. Ensure fuses No. 3 and 12 are okay. Ensure ABS is turned on and ground connection at hydraulic modulator is tight. Check connections at hydraulic modulator for leaks.
  2. Ensure brake components (pads, rotors, etc.) are okay. Ensure fuse on anti-lock power supply relay (located on auxiliary relay panel) is okay.
  3. Ensure ignition switch is in ON position for all ABS tester tests unless otherwise specified. Turn ignition off before connecting or disconnecting ABS control unit.
  4. To find faults in system, follow testing procedure completely in specified sequence. After determining system fault, repair cause, and repeat entire test procedure starting from TEST 1.
