  • Start engine and let idle.
  • Depress brake pedal once briefly.

1) Operating modes 1 and 2 appear alternately

  • Press button -1- to select "Rapid data transfer" opera mode 1.

  • Press button -0- twice to insert "Automatic Test Sequence" address word 00 and press -Q- button to confirm input.
    • The VAG 1551 scan tool sends all known address words in sequence.
    • If a control module responds with its identification, the number of stored malfunctions or "No DTC recognized" is indicated on the display.
    • Any malfunctions stored in a system (as Diagnostic Trouble Codes, or DTCs) are displayed and printed in sequence. Then, the VAG 1551 scan tool sends the next address word.

1) Operating modes 1 and 2 appear alternately

  • Switch ignition off.

If malfunctions were stored, a repair is necessary. The print-out from the VAG 1551 scan tool should be given to the Service department.

NOTE: The VAG 1551 scan tool must remain connected for adaptation of the Service Reminder Indicator (SRI) and possibly for emissions testing (where applicable).
