1996 Audi A4 Base, StandardSECTION DTC P1611/18019 - Malfunction Indicator Light (Mil) Call-Up/Transmission Control Module (TCM) Short To Ground
NOTE: This DTC can only occur if vehicle is equipped with an automatic transmission. If malfunctions are recognized that are related to exhaust system, the automatic transmission switches on MIL.
  1. Using DVOM, check MIL circuit between PCM and TCM for a short circuit. Repair circuit as necessary. If circuit is okay, go to next step. If circuit was repaired, erase DTC memory and test drive vehicle.
  2. Replace faulty TCM. Erase DTC memory and test drive vehicle. If DTC sets again, go to next step.
  3. Replace faulty PCM. Code new PCM and test drive vehicle. See PCM CODING in this article.
