Grid Filament Repair

1996 Audi A4 Base, StandardSECTION Grid Filament Repair
NOTE: To repair grid lines or terminals, use DuPont Epoxy Conductor Compound No. 4817.
  1. Clean repair area with window cleaner and degrease with alcohol. Wipe area with clean, dry, lint-free cloth. Mask repair area so that epoxy can be overlapped onto broken grid line or bus bar. See Fig 1 . Ensure masking tape is placed along both sides of grid line.

  2. Apply repair compound to repair area, ensuring overlap onto existing grid by at least 3/4". For terminal or pigtail replacement, mask area so compound can be spread onto adjacent grid lines or bus bar. Apply a thin layer of compound where terminal was located and adjacent area.
  3. Apply a thin layer of compound to terminal and place terminal in desired position. Clamp or wedge terminal to prevent movement. Carefully remove masking tape from repair area. Allow repair to cure for 24 hours at room temperature, or use a heat gun with heat range 500-700Β°F (260-371Β°C) for 15 minutes.
    CAUTION: DO NOT allow glass surface temperature to exceed 400Β°F (204Β°C) or glass may fracture.
  4. Hold gun about 10" from repair area. After compound has properly cured, remove clamp or wedge. Check operation of rear defogger. DO NOT attach connectors until curing is complete.
