REQUIREMENTS
- Fuses 4, 5, 13, 23, 24, and 27 OK
- Ground connections OK.
PROCEDURE
- Switch OFF ignition
Fuse/Relay Panel:
Connect Scan Tool VAG 1551 using adaptor cable VAG 1551/1 to DLC.
- First connect black adaptor cable connector (voltage supply) to DLC # 1. These displays appear alternately as shown:
VAG self-diagnosis HELP
1 - Rapid data transfer
OR
VAG self-diagnosis HELP
2 - Blink code output
Note: Do not connect the white adaptor cable connector if there is no display. Instead, check the voltage supply for the scan tool, Refer to Data Link Connector / Testing and Inspection. Testing and Inspection
- Connect white adaptor cable connector to DLC # 2.
- The blue connector is not used
- To obtain additional operating instructions press the HELP button.
- To step through the program sequence, press the arrow button
OPERATING MODE
- Press button 1 to select operating mode "Rapid data transfer", Display will appear as follows:

Enter address word XX
OR
- Press button 2 to select operating mode "Blink code output", Display will appear as follows:

Activate with (arrow) key
RAPID DATA TRANSFER
After selecting operating mode Rapid data transfer select diagnostic function.
- Engine Electronics 01
- Transmission Electronics 02
- Press 0 and 2 buttons to select address word 02 "Transmission Electronics".Display will appear as follows:

02-Transmission Electronics
- Press Q button to enter input. The transmission control module identification is indicated via the display. Display will appear similar to the following:

Coding 127 WSC 131071
- Display breakdown is as follows:
^ 097927731 F - Control unit part number
^ Digmat 0569 - Control unit type
^ Coding 127 - Not relevant at present
^ WSC 13071 - Number of the last dealership to access coding using the VAG 1551 Scan Tool
- Press (arrow) button. If display appears as follows:
Rapid data transfer HELP
Control Unit does not answer\
- Print out a list of possible causes by pressing the VAG 1551 HELP button
- After eliminating possible causes, reselect operating mode and address word, display appears as follows:

Select function XX
- Select function code.
- Read Diagnostic Trouble Code Memory 02
- Start Basic Setting 04
- Erase DTC Memory 05
- End Output 06
- Read Measuring Value Block 08
- Press Q button to enter input and see the proper procedure article for your selection
Note: If function 02 Check DTC memory is to be selected
- Switch on the printer using the print button, lamp in print button lights
- When the printer is switched ON stored malfunctions are automatically printed out in sequence
