Rearview Camera Image Does Not Come On (2019)
NOTE:
- Check the vehicle 12 volt battery condition first - Refer to: 12 Volt Battery Test (Without SH-AWD) or 12 Volt Battery Test (With SH-AWD) .
- Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.
- Problem verification
- 1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode, then shift the transmission to R position/mode.
If needed, start the engine, then apply the parking brake, and shift the transmission to R position/mode.
Does the center display unit image change to rear view when the transmission is shifted to R position/mode?
YES
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.
NO
The failure is duplicated, go to step 2.
- System Diagnostic Mode check
- 1. Shift the transmission to P position/mode.
- 2. Go into the System Diagnostic Mode, and use the System Links to check the Rear Camera icon status.
Is the Rear Camera icon green?
YES
Go to step 3.
NO
Go to navigation DTC 2608 (R-Camera Diag) troubleshooting - Refer to: Audio-Navigation System DTC Troubleshooting: 2608 (2015-18) or Audio-Navigation System DTC Troubleshooting: 2608 (2019) .
- Determine possible failure area (BACK LT line, others)
- 1. Go into the System Diagnostic Mode, and use the Rear Camera diagnosis.
- 2. Press the SETTINGS button to check the rearview camera image.
Does the rearview image appear?
YES
Go to step 4.
NO
Go to step 5.
- Open wire check (BACK LT line)
- 1. Go into the System Diagnostic Mode, and use the Car Status diagnosis to check the BACK signal.
- 2. Shift the transmission to R position/mode.
Does the BACK signal change from [0] to [1] when the transmission is shifted from P position/mode to R position/mode?
YES
Replace the audio-navigation unit .
NO
Repair an open in the wire between the audio-navigation unit and the under-dash fuse/relay box.
- Determine possible failure area (CAMERA VCC line, others)
- 1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle ON mode Test point 1 Rearview camera 8P connector No. 2 (KA/KC models) - Refer to: Rearview Camera Connector For Inputs And Outputs (2015-17) or Rearview Camera Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2018-19) Rearview camera 12P connector No. 3 (KX model) - Refer to: Rearview Camera Connector For Inputs And Outputs (2015-17) or Rearview Camera Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2018-19) Test point 2 Body ground Is there about 3.0 - 9.0 V?
YES
The CAMERA VCC wire is OK. Go to step 8. Refer to: 8
NO
Go to step 6.
- Open wire check (CAMERA VCC line)
- 1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle ON mode Test point 1 Audio-navigation unit connector G (24P) No. 16 - Refer to: Audio-Navigation Unit Connector For Inputs And Outputs (With Auto Idle Stop System) (2015-17) or Audio-Navigation Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (Without Auto Idle Stop System) (2015-17) or Audio-Navigation Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (Undefined) (2018), or Audio-Navigation Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2019) Test point 2 Body ground Is there about 3.0 - 9.0 V?
YES
Repair an open in the wire between the audio-navigation unit and the rearview camera.
NO
Go to step 7.
- Shorted wire check (CAMERA VCC line)
- 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Disconnect the following connectors.
Audio-navigation unit connector G (24P) Rearview camera 8P connector (KA/KC models) Rearview camera 12P connector (KX model) - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Audio-navigation unit connector G (24P): disconnected Rearview camera 8P connector (KA/KC models): disconnected Rearview camera 12P connector (KX model): disconnected Test point 1 Audio-navigation unit connector G (24P) No. 16 - Refer to: Audio-Navigation Unit Connector For Inputs And Outputs (With Auto Idle Stop System) (2015-17) or Audio-Navigation Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (Without Auto Idle Stop System) (2015-17) or Audio-Navigation Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (Undefined) (2018), or Audio-Navigation Unit Connector for Inputs and Outputs (2019) Test point 2 Body ground Is there continuity?
YES
Repair a short to body ground in the wire between the audio-navigation unit and the rearview camera.
NO
- Shorted wire check (CAMERA V line)
- 1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Disconnect the following connectors.
Audio-navigation unit connector G (24P) Rearview camera 8P connector (KA/KC models) Rearview camera 12P connector (KX model) - 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

YES
There is a short to body ground in the wire between the audio-navigation unit and the rearview camera. Replace the affected shielded harness.
NO
The CAMERA V wire is not shorted to ground. Go to step 9.
- Shorted wire check (CAMERA V line to another lines)
- 1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.

There is a short in the wires between the audio-navigation unit and the rearview camera. Replace the affected shielded harness.
NO
The CAMERA V wire is not shorted. Go to step 10.
- Open wire check (CAMERA V line, CAMERA GND line)
- 1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
KA/KC models

The CAMERA V and the CAMERA GND wires are OK. Go to step 11.
NO
There is an open in the wire (s) between the audio-navigation unit and the rearview camera. Replace the affected shielded harness.
- Rearview camera check
- 1. Substitute a known-good rearview camera.
- 2. Reconnect all the connectors, and recheck.
Does the symptom go away?
YES
Replace the original rearview camera.
NO
