Starter Overhaul (L4): Reassembly

2018 Acura TLX Base, 2.4L EngSECTION Reassembly

NOTE:Β  Refer to the Exploded ViewΒ  if needed during this procedure.

  1. Switch Plunger and Gear Plunger - Install

  3. Brush Holder Assembly - Install

    1. Install the brush holder assembly (A)

    2. Install the moving contact (B), contact spring (C), and push nut (D).

    NOTE:Β  Always use a new moving contact, contact spring, and push nut

    3. Install the terminal housing (E).

  4. Armature - Install

    1. Install the armature (A) in the brush holder (B)

    2. Install the brushes into the brush holder.

    NOTE:Β  To seat the new brushes, slip a strip of #500 or #600 sandpaper, with the grit side up, between the commutator and each brush, and smoothly turn the armature. The contact surface of the brushes will be sanded to the same contour as the commutator

    3. While squeezing a spring (C), insert it in the hole on the brush holder, and push it until it bottoms. Repeat this for the other three springs (D, E, and F).

  5. Armature Housing - Install

    NOTE:Β  Be careful not to be attracted the armature (A) to the armature housing (B) by a magnetic force when installing the armature housing.

  6. End Cover - Install
