Engine Removal and Installation (2013-15): Removal
- Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
- To avoid damaging the wiring and terminals, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.
- Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconnection. Also, be sure that they do not contact other wiring or hoses, or interfere with other parts.
- Vehicle - Lift
1. Raise and support the vehicle . - Hood - Wide Open
1. Open the hood, remove and relocate the hood support rod (A) to the wide-open positions (B) and secure the hood. - Fuel Pressure - Relieve
1. Relieve the fuel pressure . - Battery - Remove
1. Do the battery removal procedure . - Intake Air Scoop and Air Intake Tube - Remove
1. Remove the intake air scoop (A) and the air intake tube (B). - Front Grille Cover - Remove
1. Remove the front grille cover . - Engine Cover - Remove
1. Remove the engine cover . - Air Cleaner - Remove
1. Remove the air cleaner . - Battery Cable and Starter Cable - Remove
1. Remove the battery cable (A) and the starter cable (B). - Shift Cable - Remove
1. Remove the shift cable. Do not bend the shift cable excessively . - PCM Connector and Engine Wire Harness Connector - Disconnect
1. Disconnect the PCM connectors (A) 2. Remove the harness clamps (B) and disconnect the engine wire harness connectors (C).
- EVAP Canister Purge Hose, Brake Booster Vacuum Hose, and Breather Hose - Disconnect
1. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose (A), the EVAP canister purge hose (B), and the breather hose (C). - Fuel Feed Hose - Disconnect
1. Remove the quick connect fitting cover (A), then disconnect the fuel feed hose (B) . - Steering Joint - Disconnect
1. Disconnect the steering joint . NOTE: Hold the steering wheel using the steering wheel holder tool. - Radiator Cap - Remove
1. Remove the radiator cap. - Vehicle - Lift
1. Raise the vehicle on a lift. - Front Wheel - Remove
1. Remove both front wheels . - Engine Undercover - Remove
1. Remove the engine undercover . - Engine Coolant - Drain
1. Drain the engine coolant . - Engine Oil - Drain
1. Drain the engine oil . - ATF - Drain
1. Drain the ATF . - Exhaust Pipe A - Remove
1. Remove exhaust pipe A . - Propeller Shaft - Remove (AWD)
1. AWD: Remove the propeller shaft. - Transfer Assembly - Remove (AWD)
1. AWD: Remove the transfer assembly . - ATF Hose - Disconnect
1. Disconnect the outlet side ATF hose (A) from the ATF cooler, then plug the ATF hose and the lines. - Lower Arm Ball Joint - Disconnect
1. Disconnect the lower arm ball joint on both sides . - Stabilizer Link Ball Joint - Disconnect
1. Disconnect the lower stabilizer link ball joint on both sides . - Tie-Rod End Ball Joint - Disconnect
1. Disconnect the tie-rod end ball joint on both sides . NOTE: Be careful not to damage the tie-rod end ball joint boot when installing the remover. - Driveshaft - Remove
1. Remove the driveshaft . - Vehicle - Lift
1. Lower the vehicle. - Heater Hose - Disconnect
1. Disconnect the heater hoses (A). - Radiator Assembly - Remove
1. Remove the radiator assembly . - Alternator - Remove
1. Remove the alternator . - A/C Compressor - Remove
1. Remove the A/C compressor without disconnecting the A/C hoses. Do not bend the A/C hoses excessively. NOTE: Hang the A/C compressor with a wire tie. - Connector Bracket - Remove
1. Remove the connector bracket (A) from the front cylinder head; use the bracket bolt hole to attach the engine hanger balance bar front arm. - Harness Bracket - Remove
1. Remove the harness bracket (A) from the rear cylinder head; use the bracket bolt hole to attach the 2008 V6 attachment arm. - Engine Hanger Adapter Set - Install
1. Remove the service caps (A) 2. Install the engine hanger adapters (VSB02C000037) as shown.
- Engine Support Hanger - Install
1. Install the engine hanger balance bar (VSB02C000019). Attach the front arm (A) to the front cylinder head with a 10 mm (0.39 in) spacer (B) and a 10 x 1.25 mm bolt (C). Remove the rear arm from the engine hanger balance bar, then install the 2008 V6 attachment arm (SIL02C000033). Attach the 2008 V6 attachment arm to the rear cylinder head with a 10 mm (0.39 in) spacer (D) and an 8 x 1.25 mm bolt (E) 2. Install the engine support hanger (AAR-T1256) onto the vehicle as shown, and attach the hook to the slotted hole in the engine hanger balance bar. Tighten the wing nut (F) by hand, and lift and support the engine/transmission.
NOTE:- Be careful when working around the windshield.
- AAR-T1256 two sets required for stacking additional cross section bars.
- Front Engine Mount Stop and Front Engine Mount Mounting Bolt - Remove
1. Remove the No. 6 cylinder ignition coil .
2. Remove the front engine mount stop (A).
3. Remove the front engine mount mounting bolt (B).
4. Disconnect the front engine mount actuator subharness connector (C).
5. Remove the ATF hose brackets (D). - Rear Engine Mount Stop and Rear Engine Mount Mounting Bolt - Remove
1. Remove the rear engine mount stop (A) 2. Remove the rear engine mount mounting bolt (B)
3. Disconnect the rear engine mount actuator subharness connector (C).
- Vehicle - Lift
1. Raise the vehicle. - EPS Connector - Disconnect
1. Disconnect the EPS connectors . - Lower Transmission Mount Mounting Bolt - Remove
1. Remove the lower transmission mount mounting bolts. - Subframe Adapter - Attach
1. Attach the subframe adapter (VSB02C000016) to the front subframe by looping the belt (A) over the front of the front subframe, then secure the belt with its stop (B), and tighten the wing nut (C) 2. Raise a transmission jack and line up the slots in the subframe adapter arms with the bolt holes on the transmission jack base, then securely attach them with four bolts.
- Front Subframe - Remove
1. Remove the front subframe . - Vehicle - Lift
1. Lower the vehicle. - Chain Hoist - Attach
1. Attach a chain hoist (A) to the engine hanger (B) and the transmission hanger (C), then lift the engine/transmission until it's securely supported by the chain hoist 2. Remove the engine support hanger, the engine hanger balance bar, and the 2008 V6 attachment arm.
- Engine Hanger Adapter Set - Remove
1. Remove the engine hanger adapters 2. Install the service caps (A).
- Upper Half of Side Engine Mount Bracket Mounting Bolt - Remove
1. Remove the upper half of the side engine mount bracket mounting bolts. - Upper Transmission Mount Bracket Mounting Bolt - Remove
1. Remove the upper transmission mount bracket mounting bolts. NOTE: Do not remove the TORX bolt (A) from the upper transmission mount. If the TORX bolt is removed, the upper transmission mount must be replaced as an assembly. - Engine - Remove
1. Check that the engine/transmission is completely free of the vacuum hoses, the fuel hoses, the coolant hoses, and the electrical wiring 2. Slowly lower the engine/transmission about 150 mm (5.91 in). Check once again that all the hoses and the electrical wiring are disconnected and free from the engine/transmission, then lower it all the way and support it
3. Remove the chain hoist from the engine/transmission
4. Raise the vehicle, and remove the engine/transmission from under the vehicle.
