Navigation System Symptom Troubleshooting - Rearview camera image does not come on or work properly (2013-15)
Rearview camera image does not come on or work properly
- Check the vehicle battery condition first .
- Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.
- Problem verification:
Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
- 2. Move the shift lever to R.
Does the navigation display image change when the shift lever is in R?
YES
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.
YES
Go to step 3.
NO
The failure is duplicated, go to step 2.
- Open wire check (BACK LT line):
Move the shift lever to P or N.
- 2. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
- 3. Disconnect the following connector.
Navigation display unit 36P connector - 4. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
- 5. Move the shift lever to R.
- 6. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition ON mode Navigation display unit 36P connector: disconnected Test circuit BACK LT Test point 1 Navigation display unit 36P connector No. 20 (GRY) Test point 2 Body ground Is there battery voltage?
YES
Replace the navigation display unit .
NO
Repair an open in the wire between the navigation display unit and the under-dash fuse/relay box.
- DTC check:
Move the shift lever to P or N.
- 2. Check for hard error codes .
Are there any navigation DTCs indicated?
YES
Go to indicated DTC's troubleshooting.
NO
Go to step 4.
- Open wire check (CAMERA lines):
Move the shift lever to P or N.
- 2. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
- 3. Disconnect the following connectors.
Navigation display unit 36P connector Rearview camera 12P connector - 4. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition OFF mode Navigation display unit 36P connector: disconnected Rearview camera 12P connector: disconnected Test circuit Test point 1:Navigation display unit 36P connector Test point 2:Rearview camera 12P connector CAMERA V No. 15 (WHT) No. 9 (GRN) CAMERA V GND No. 16 (RED) No. 7 (RED) CAMERA VCC No. 34 (BLK) No. 4 (BLK) CAMERA GND No. 35 (GRN) No. 6 (WHT) Is there continuity?
YES
The CAMERA wires are not open. Go to step 5.
NO
There is an open in the wire(s) between the navigation display unit and the rearview camera. Replace the affected shielded harness.
- Shorted wire check (CAMERA lines) 1:
Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition OFF mode Navigation display unit 36P connector: disconnected Rearview camera 12P connector: disconnected Test circuits Connector: Navigation display unit 36P connector Test point 1 Test points 2 CAMERA V to CAMERA V GND, SH CAMERA, CAMERA VCC, CAMERA GND No. 15 (WHT) No. 16 (RED), No. 33 (GRY), No. 34 (BLK), No. 35 (GRN) CAMERA V GND to SH CAMERA, CAMERA VCC, CAMERA GND No. 16 (RED) No. 33 (GRY), No. 34 (BLK), No. 35 (GRN) SH CAMERA to CAMERA VCC, CAMERA GND No. 33 (GRY) No. 34 (BLK), No. 35 (GRN) CAMERA VCC to CAMERA GND No. 34 (BLK) No. 35 (GRN) Is there continuity between any of the terminals?
YES
There is a short in the wires between the navigation display unit and the rearview camera. Replace the affected shielded harness.
NO
The CAMERA wires are not shorted in the wires. Go to step 6.
- Shorted wire check (CAMERA lines) 2:
Check for continuity between these test points and body ground individually.
Test condition OFF mode Navigation display unit 36P connector: disconnected Rearview camera 12P connector: disconnected Connector Test circuit Terminal Navigation display unit 36P connector CAMERA V No. 15 (WHT) CAMERA V GND No. 16 (RED) CAMERA VCC No. 34 (BLK) Is there continuity?
YES
There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the navigation display unit and the rearview camera. Replace the affected shielded harness.
NO
The CAMERA wires are OK. Go to step 7.
- Navigation display unit check:
Substitute a known-good rearview camera .
- 2. Reconnect all the connectors, and recheck.
Does the symptom go away?
YES
Replace the original rearview camera.
NO
