Cannot select ON mode with keyless access and with the keyless remote touching the engine start/stop switch 

  1. Keyless access system check 1:

    Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode while turning the steering wheel to the left and to the right.

    - 2. Repeat step 1 at least 10 times.

    Does the system change to ON mode?

    YES 

    The system is OK at this time.

    NO 

    Go to step 2.

  2. Keyless access system check 2:

    Touch the engine start/stop switch with the keyless remote. The buttons on the keyless remote should be facing you. The LED on the start/stop switch will turn solid when detected.

    - 2. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode while turning the steering wheel to the left and to the right.

    Does the system change to ON mode?

    YES 

    Go to the keyless access system symptom troubleshooting "Cannot select ON mode with keyless access, but can select ON mode with the keyless remote touching the engine start/stop switch" .

    NO 

    Go to step 3.

  3. Keyless access system check 3:

    Connect the HDS to the data link connector (DLC) - Refer to: How to Troubleshoot the Fuel and Emissions Systems (2013-15), or How to Troubleshoot the A/T System (2013-15) and boot the HDS.

    - 2. Select model on the HDS screen.

    - 3. When prompted by the HDS, select YES when asked if the vehicle has keyless access system, then press and hold the engine start/stop button for at least 2 minutes. This selects the forced ON mode.

    Does the system change to forced ON mode?

    YES 

    Go to step 4.

    NO 

    If the screen displays that a DTC is stored, go to step 14.

    NO 

    If the screen displays "Cannot detect ENGINE START/STOP button signal", go to step 15.

  4. PCU DTC check:

    Check for PCU DTCs with the HDS.

    DTC Description DTC
       

    Are any DTCs indicated?

    YES 

    Troubleshoot the PCU DTCs.

    NO 

    Go to step 5.

  5. Determine possible failure area (keyless access control unit, others):

    Select KEYLESS ACCESS CONTROL UNIT from the ONE-PUSH START system select menu with the HDS.

    One-Push - SMART KEY UNIT - Smart Information

    Is there communication?

    YES 

    Go to step 6.

    NO 

    Do the keyless access control unit input test .

  6. Keyless access control unit DTC check:

    Check for KEYLESS ACCESS CONTROL UNIT DTCs with the HDS.

    DTC Description DTC
       

    Are any DTCs indicated?

    YES 

    Troubleshoot the KEYLESS ACCESS CONTROL UNIT DTCs.

    NO 

    Go to step 7.

  7. Determine possible failure area (backup control unit, others):

    Check for BACKUP CONTROL UNIT communication with the HDS.

    Is there communication?

    YES 

    Go to step 8.

    NO 

    Do the backup control unit input test .

  8. Backup control unit DTC check:

    Check for BACKUP CONTROL UNIT DTCs with the HDS.

    DTC Description DTC
       

    Are any DTCs indicated?

    YES 

    Troubleshoot the BACKUP CONTROL UNIT DTCs.

    NO 

    Go to step 9.

  9. Determine possible failure area (keyless remote, others):

    Select KEYLESS TRANSMITTER from the BODY ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SELECT menu, then select INSPECTION, then KEYLESS CHECK.

    - 1. Smart key - Inspection - Functional Tests

    - 2. Press the lock and unlock button and check the response on the screen of the HDS.

    Is DIFFERENT KEYLESS ENTRY TRANSMITTER CODE IS RECEIVED indicated?

    YES 

    Register the keyless remote .

    NO 

    Go to step 10.

  10. Keyless access system check 4:

    Press the lock and unlock button and check the response on the screen of the HDS.

    Is KEYLESS ENTRY TRANSMITTER CODE IS RECEIVED indicated?

    YES 

    Go to step 12.

    NO 

    Go to step 11.

  11. Keyless access system check 5:

    Register the keyless remote .

    - 2. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode while turning the steering wheel to the left and to the right.

    Does the system change to ON mode?

    YES 

    The system is OK at this time.

    NO 

    Replace the keyless remote and do the keyless access system registration .

  12. Keyless access system check 5:

    - 1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.

    - 2. Remove all the keyless remotes from inside the vehicle. Place the keyless remotes more then 5 feet away from the vehicle.

    - 3. Disconnect the electric steering lock 12P connector .

    - 4. Reboot the HDS without pressing the engine start/stop button.

    - 5. Select REGISTRATION from the ONE-PUSH START system select menu with the HDS, then select REPLACE PCU.

    - 6.Replace Smart Unit

    Reconnect the electric steering lock 12P connector .

    - 7. Do the registration of PCU according to the instructions on the HDS screen.

    - 8. Take the keyless remote into the vehicle, and clear the PCU DTCs with the HDS.

    Clear DTCs

    - 9. Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode while turning the steering wheel to the left and to the right.

    - 10.Repeat step 2-9 at least 10 times.

    Does the system change to ON mode?

    YES 

    The system is OK at this time.

    NO 

    Go to step 13.

  13. Power control unit check (substitution):

    Substitute a known-good power control unit.

    - 2. Recheck the system.

    Is the system normal?

    YES 

    Replace the original power control unit .

    NO 

    Replace the electric steering lock .

  14. PCU DTC check:

    Check for PCU DTCs with the HDS.

    DTC Description DTC
       

    Are any DTCs indicated?

    YES 

    Troubleshoot the PCU DTCs.

    NO 

    Go to step 19.

  15. Engine start/stop switch operation check:

    Do the engine start/stop switch test .

    Is the engine start/stop switch OK?

    YES 

    Go to step 16.

    NO 

    Replace the engine start/stop switch .

  16. Open wire check (SS2 (-), SS1 (+) lines):

    Disconnect the following connectors.

    Engine start/stop switch 10P connector
    Power control unit connector C (36P)

    - 2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2 respectively.

    NO 

    Repair an open or high resistance in the wire.

  17. Open wire check (+B SMART line):

    Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.

    NO 

    Repair an open or high resistance in the wire.

    Repair an open or high resistance in the ground wire or poor ground (G506).

    Disconnect the following connector.

    NO 

    Repair an open or high resistance in the wire.

  20. Open wire check (GND line) 1:

    Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2 individually.

    NO 

    Repair an open or high resistance in the wire.

  22. Shorted wire check (between electric steering lock and body ground):

    Disconnect the following connectors.

    - 2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2 as shown.

  34. Power control unit check (substitution):

    Substitute a known-good power control unit

    - 2. Reconnect these items:

    - 3. Select REGISTRATION from the ONE-PUSH START system select menu with the HDS, then select REPLACE PCU.

    - 4.Replace Smart Unit

    Press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode while turning the steering wheel to the left and to the right.

    Does the system change to ON mode?

    YES 

    Replace the original power control unit .

    NO 

    Replace the electric steering lock .
