RES power will not turn on (2016)
- Check the vehicle battery condition first - Refer to: Battery Test (2016), or Battery Test (2014 2015) .
- Before you troubleshoot, make sure to follow the How to Troubleshoot the Rear Entertainment System.
- Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.
- Problem verification
-1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
- 2. Open the rear screen, and check if the rear screen turns on.
Does the rear screen turns on (displays the opening screen)?
YES
Go to step 3.
NO
The failure is duplicated, go to step 2.
- Determine possible failure area (DVD player unit power and ground circuit, others)
-1. Press the REAR POWER button on the DVD player unit, and check if the REAR POWER button LED comes on.
Is the REAR POWER button LED come on?
YES
Go to step 8.
NO
Go to step 4.
- Rear controller and screen check
-1. Do the RES self-diagnostic function with the DVD player unit.
Does the self-diagnosis start, and is the CONNECT diagnosis OK?
YES
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.
NO
Replace the rear controller and screen; Ultrawide RES type - Refer to: Rear Controller and Screen Removal and Installation (UltraWide RES Type), or Rear Controller and Screen Removal and Installation (RES Type) , RES type - Refer to: Rear Controller and Screen Removal and Installation (UltraWide RES Type), or Rear Controller and Screen Removal and Installation (RES Type) .
- Fuse check
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Check the following fuse.
Fuse No. E25 (7.5 A) Location Passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box Is the fuse OK?
YES
Go to step 5.
NO
Replace the fuse, and recheck. If the fuse blows again, check for a short in the No. E25 (7.5 A) fuse circuit.
- Fuse check
-1. Check the following fuse.
With auto idle stop system:
Fuse No. H1 (20 A) Location Auxiliary under-dash fuse/relay box Without auto idle stop system:
Fuse No. C15 (20 A) Location Under-hood fuse/relay box Is the fuse OK?
YES
Go to step 6.
NO: With auto idle stop system
Replace the fuse, and recheck. If the fuse blows again, check for a short in the No. H1 (20 A) fuse circuit.
NO: Without auto idle stop system
Replace the fuse, and recheck. If the fuse blows again, check for a short in the No. C15 (20 A) fuse circuit.
- Open wire check (+B RADIO (DC/DC) / +B RADIO line)
-1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Test circuit +B RADIO (DC/DC)* 1+B RADIO* 2 Test point 1 DVD player unit connector A (24P) No. 12 (YEL* 1 / ORN* 2) Test point 2 Body ground *1: With auto idle stop system*2: Without auto idle stop system
Is there battery voltage?
YES
The +B RADIO (DC/DC) or +B RADIO wire is OK. Go to step 7.
NO: With auto idle stop system
Repair an open in the wire between the No. H1 (20 A) fuse in the auxiliary under-dash fuse/relay box and the DVD player unit.
NO: Without auto idle stop system
Repair an open in the wire between the No. C15 (20 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box and the DVD player unit.
- Open wire check (GND line)
-1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle ON mode Test circuit GND Test point 1 DVD player unit connector A (24P) No. 13 (BLK) Test point 2 Body ground Is there less than 0.2 V?
YES
NO
Repair an open or high resistance in the wire between the DVD player unit and body ground (G505).
- Fuse check
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Check the following fuse.
With auto idle stop system:
Fuse No. H6 (7.5 A) Location Auxiliary under-dash fuse/relay box Without auto idle stop system:
Fuse No. C16 (10 A) Location Under-hood fuse/relay box Is the fuse OK?
YES
Go to step 9.
NO: With auto idle stop system
Replace the fuse, and recheck. If the fuse blows again, check for a short in the No. H6 (7.5 A) fuse circuit.
NO: Without auto idle stop system
Replace the fuse, and recheck. If the fuse blows again, check for a short in the No. C16 (10 A) fuse circuit.
- Open wire check (+B BACK UP line)
-1. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Test circuit +B BACK UP Test point 1 Rear controller and screen connector A (24P) No. 12 (GRN) Test point 2 Body ground Is there battery voltage?
YES
The +B BACK UP wire is OK. Go to step 10.
NO: With auto idle stop system
Repair an open in the wire between the No. H6 (7.5 A) fuse in the auxiliary under-dash fuse/relay box and the rear controller and screen.
NO: Without auto idle stop system
Repair an open in the wire between the No. C16 (10 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box and the rear controller and screen.
- Open wire check (GND line)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the ON mode.
- 2. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle ON mode Test circuit GND Test point 1 Rear controller and screen connector A (24P) No. 11 (BLK) Test point 2 Body ground Is there less than 0.2 V?
YES
Go to step 11.
NO
Repair an open or high resistance in the wire between the rear controller and screen and body ground (G507).
- Shorted wire check (GA SYS ON line)
-1. Turn the vehicle to the OFF (LOCK) mode.
- 2. Disconnect the following connectors.
- 3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Audio-navigation unit connector D (12P): disconnected Rear controller and screen connector A (24P) : disconnected XM receiver connector A (14P) (with XM): disconnected DVD player unit connector A (24P): disconnected Tuner unit connector A (12P): disconnected HandsFreeLink control unit connector A (32P) (without AcuraLink): disconnected Telematics control unit connector A (36P) (with AcuraLink): disconnected Test circuit GA SYS ON Test point 1 Rear controller and screen connector A (24P) No. 10 (ORN) Test point 2 Body ground Is there continuity?
YES
Repair a short in the GA SYS ON wire.
NO
Go to step 12.
- Open wire check (GA SYS ON line)
-1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Audio-navigation unit connector D (12P): disconnected Rear controller and screen connector A (24P) : disconnected XM receiver connector A (14P) (with XM): disconnected DVD player unit connector A (24P): disconnected Tuner unit connector A (12P): disconnected HandsFreeLink control unit connector A (32P) (without AcuraLink): disconnected Telematics control unit connector A (36P) (with AcuraLink): disconnected Test circuit GA SYS ON Test point 1 Rear controller and screen connector A (24P) No. 10 (ORN) Test point 2 DVD player unit connector A (24P) No. 11 (ORN) Is there continuity?
YES
Go to step 13.
NO
Repair a short in the wire between the DVD player unit and the rear controller and screen.
- Shorted wire check (GA BUS+ line, GA BUS- line)
-1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Rear controller and screen connector A (24P) : disconnected DVD player unit connector A (24P): disconnected Test circuit GA BUS+ Test point 1 Rear controller and screen connector A (24P) No. 9 (BRN) Test point 2 Body ground Test circuit GA BUS- Test point 1 Rear controller and screen connector A (24P) No. 8 (YEL) Test point 2 Body ground Is there continuity?
YES
There is a short in the GA BUS wires. Replace the affected shielded harness.
NO
Go to step 14.
- Shorted wire check (GA BUS+ line to GA BUS- line)
-1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Rear controller and screen connector A (24P) : disconnected DVD player unit connector A (24P): disconnected Test circuit GA BUS+, GA BUS- Test point 1 Rear controller and screen connector A (24P) No. 9 (BRN) Test point 2 Rear controller and screen connector A (24P) No. 8 (YEL) Is there continuity?
YES
There is a short in the GA BUS wires. Replace the affected shielded harness.
NO
Go to step 15.
- Open wire check (GA BUS+ line, GA BUS- line)
-1. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.
Test condition Vehicle OFF (LOCK) mode Rear controller and screen connector A (24P) : disconnected DVD player unit connector A (24P): disconnected Test circuit GA BUS+ Test point 1 Rear controller and screen connector A (24P) No. 9 (BRN) Test point 2 DVD player unit connector A (24P) No. 10 (BRN) Test circuit GA BUS- Test point 1 Rear controller and screen connector A (24P) No. 8 (YEL) Test point 2 DVD player unit connector A (24P) No. 23 (YEL) Is there continuity?
YES
Go to step 16.
NO
There is an open in the wire (s) between the DVD player unit and the rear controller and screen. Replace the affected shielded harness.
- DVD player unit check
-1. Substitute a known-good rear controller and screen; Ultrawide RES type, RES type, and recheck.
Does the symptom go away?
YES
Replace the original rear controller and screen; Ultrawide RES type - Refer to: Rear Controller and Screen Removal and Installation (UltraWide RES Type), or Rear Controller and Screen Removal and Installation (RES Type) , RES type - Refer to: Rear Controller and Screen Removal and Installation (UltraWide RES Type), or Rear Controller and Screen Removal and Installation (RES Type) .
