SERVICE INFORMATION
Insulated gloves are important personal protection equipment when working on live, high-voltage circuits. These gloves are marked on the cuff with an inspection date. That's the date when the gloves were first inspected and certified by the manufacturer.
According to federal regulations, if the sealed manufacturing package isn't opened within 12 months of that date, the gloves must be recertified before first use. After that package is first opened, the gloves must be recertified every 6 months .
Recertification must be done by an accredited lab. For more info on how and where to get this done, go to www.nail4pet.org . It's the website for the North American Independent Laboratories for Protective Equipment Testing (NAIL for PET).
The lab inspects and electrically tests the gloves to ensure they're safe to use. If the gloves pass, they're recertified and returned to you. If they fail, they're rejected and made useless, and you're out a pair of gloves.
To ensure your safety and help the gloves last longer, follow these guidelines:
- Always inspect the gloves before using them.
- Always wear the leather protectors over the gloves.
- Avoid exposing gloves to petroleum products and other chemicals
- Don't write on the gloves with anything other than a soft-tip felt pen that uses a mild solvent in the ink.
- Always store the gloves flat in their protective glove bag with the leather protectors separated, and just one pair per bag. Store them in a cool, dry place away from ozone, petroleum products, chemicals, electrical discharges, and sunlight.
- Keep track of when each pair of gloves needs recertification.
