EDITOR'S NOTE:  This article replaces "Intermittent SRS DTC 11-1x to 11-9x, 11-Ax, and 11-Bx," issued in January 2004.

If you're troubleshooting an intermittent SRS DTC that's listed on the chart below, check the service and warranty history to see if any repair was done that required removing the subframe, the steering wheel, or the steering rack. If so, the cable reel could have been reinstalled wrong and damaged as a result.

The cable reel is the only moving part in the SRS, therefore the most susceptible to damage or wear that can cause an intermittent DTC.

NOTE: The at the end of each DTC represents a number (0-9) or letter (A-F) that you may also see on the HDS screen. That number or letter isn't related to your DTC troubleshooting; it's used by the SRS unit manufacturer.
