All models with SRS
With all of the repairs being done on the SRS, it can be easy to forget or ignore SRS safety. At this time, probably every vehicle in your shop has SRS, so even if you're not working directly on a SRS component, you still might be working near one.
That's why it's so important that you understand and practice SRS safety. Failure to do so could result in an unintended deployment and possible injury. With that in mind, here are some important guidelines you should definitely follow:
- If you work at an Acura dealership, make sure you've taken the SRS training modules in the Online University. If it's been a while since you've taken them and you feel you could use a refresher, don't hesitate to take them again.
- Make sure you've reviewed SRS Precautions and Procedures in the service information. They're listed for each vehicle model and year. Just enter keywords SRS PRECAUTIONS AND PROCEDURES .
- If you're not familiar with the SRS components and their locations, be sure to check out the SRS Component Location Index in the service information. For any model and year, you'll see every SRS component and its exact location. Just enter keywords SRS COMPONENTS . And if you work at an Acura dealership, the SRS training modules also include examples.
- Do not do any impact or hammering work near the SRS unit, front impact sensors, side impact sensors, or safing sensor with the ignition turned to ON, Also, wait for at least 3 minutes after the turning the ignition to OFF before doing any such work.
- Before starting any SRS component work, always turn the ignition to OFF, disconnect the negative cable from the 12-volt battery, and wait for at least 3 minutes .
- Do not use air- or battery-powered impact tools to remove or install the SRS unit, front impact sensors, side impact sensors, or safing sensor.
- Do not plug any connectors into the SRS unit, front impact sensors, side impact sensors, or safing sensor until it's properly mounted and torqued.
