Acura's navigation systems let up to two users have a personal address book. Each user has the option of protecting access to their personal address book with a four-digit personal identification number (PIN). Unfortunately, if the user forgets the PIN, the user is locked out of their personal address book. And the only way to get back in is to visit an Acura dealership and have a new PIN entered, or have the old PIN removed entirely, allowing anyone to have access.

Use this procedure to change or remove a navigation system PIN for your customer:

  1. Get the anti-theft security code.
    • If the navigation system anti-theft card that came with the navigation system is available, read the four-digit code printed on the card.
    • If the navigation system anti-theft card is lost, you'll need to read the serial number from the underside of the navigation system control unit (not  the display unit) that's mounted in the trunk ('99-03 3.2TLs, '01-03 3.2CLs, '96-04 3.5RLs, '04 TSXs) or under the front passenger's seat ('01-03 MDXs).
NOTE: Navigation systems with voice recognition can display the serial number on-screen when in the diagnostic mode. Refer to the appropriate S/M or the May '03 Service News article, Displaying the Navigation System Serial Number, for more info.

Use the serial number to get the anti-theft security code from the Interactive Network ( N). Refer to S/B 99-041, TQI of the DVD Navigation System;  S/B 02-030, TQI of the DVD Navigation System With Voice Recognition;  and S/B 03-013, TQI of the DVD Navigation System With Voice Recognition  for additional serial number info. If you have any trouble getting the antitheft code from the N, call the Warranty department.

  2. Change or remove the navigation system PIN.
    • Navigation system with voice recognition:
      • Press the SET-UP  button.
      • From the Set-up Screen  , select at the top right of the screen
      • Select PIN Number  from the Edit Personal Information  group.
      • Select Personal Address PIN  .
      • Select User 1 or User 2, depending on which PIN you need to reset.
      • When prompted to enter the PIN, enter the anti-theft code.
      • When prompted to enter the new PIN, either enter the four digits of your customer's new PIN, or select Do not use PIN  (if your customer doesn't want one).
    • Navigation systems without voice recognition  (DVD and HDD navigation systems):
      • Touch the Setup  icon.
      • From the DVD Set-up Screen  , select Others  , then Personal PIN  .
      • From the HDD Set-up Screen  , select PIN.
      • Select User 1  or User 2  , depending on which PIN you need to reset.
      • When prompted to enter the PIN, enter the anti-theft code.
      • When prompted to enter the new PIN, either enter the four digits of your customer's new PIN, or leave the field blank and select Done  (if your customer doesn't want a PIN).
