WARNING:
Ensure lifts, jacks and stands are placed properly.
- Raise the front of the vehicle, and support it with safety stands.
- Set the parking brake, and block both rear wheels securely.
- Shift the transaxle to the Neutral position.
- Remove the clamp, then disconnect the transmission range switch connector. See Fig 1 .
- Remove the clamp from the transmission range switch harness bracket on the rear cover.
- Remove the shift cable cover mounting bolts.
- Remove the shift solenoid valve/A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve harness clamp and connector from the shift cable cover.
- Disconnect the shift solenoid valve/A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve harness clamp connector, then remove the shift cable cover from the transaxle.
- Remove the control lever.
- Remove the lock nut and lock washer.
- Remove the transmission range switch.
- Set a new transmission range switch to the Neutral position as shown. See Fig 2
.NOTE: The transmission range switch clicks in the Neutral position.
- Set the control shaft to the Neutral position. See Fig 3 .
- Install the transmission switch on the control shaft, and loosely install the bolts. See Fig 4 .
- Install a new lock washer on the transmission range switch by aligning its projected tip with the Neutral position mark on the transmission range switch as shown. See Fig 5 .
- Tighten the lock nut while holding the control shaft, then bend the lock tabs against the locknut.
- Tighten the 6 mm bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONSΒ .
- Install the control lever. See Fig 6 .
- Connect the shift solenoid valve/A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve harness connector.
- Install the shift solenoid valve/A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve harness clamp to shift cable cover onto the transaxle. See Fig 7 .
- Connect the transaxle range switch harness connector, then clamp the harness clamp on the brackets.
- Turn the ignition switch ON (II). Move the shift lever through all gears, and check the transmission range switch synchronization with the A/T gear position indicator. See Figure .
- If the transmission range switch is not synchronized with the A/T gear indicator, loosen the bolts securing the transmission range switch and adjust the transmission range switch installation.
- Start the engine. Move the shift lever through all gears, and verify the following:
- The shift lever cannot be moved to the Reverse position from the Neural position without pushing the shift lever button.
- The engine will not start in any drive gear, only in the Neutral or Park position.
- The back-up lights illuminate when the shift lever is in the Reverse position.
CAUTION:
Take care not to bend to the shift cable.
