Removal & Installation: Transaxle: Installation
2004 Acura 3.5RLSECTION Installation
- Flush the ATF cooler. Install the torque converter securely with a new "O" ring on the mainshaft, and install two 14 x 20 mm dowel pins in the torque converter housing. See Fig 1 . Clean the extension shaft opening on the differential side.
- Insert extension shaft in its opening, and apply super high temp Urea Grease to the shaft splines. See Fig 2 . Place the transaxle on a jack, and raise it to engine level.
- Attach the transaxle to the engine, then install the transaxle housing mounting bolt with the 26-mm shim. See Figure . Attach the torque converter to the drive plate with 6 bolts and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONSΒ . Rotate the crankshaft as necessary to tighten the bolts to 1/2 of the specified torque, then to the final torque, in a crisscross pattern. After tightening the last bolt, check that the crankshaft rotates freely. Install the torque converter covers.
- Install the engine stiffener. Tighten the engine stiffener 8 mm bolts loosely, and tighten the transaxle housing mounting bolt to the specified torque, then tighten the 8 mm bolts to the specified torque. Install the transaxle housing mounting bolts from the transaxle side. See Figure .
- Install the transaxle beam to the rear transaxle mount bracket/mount. Tighten the 3 center bolts loosely, then install them with the exhaust pipe bracket on the rear cover and body. See Fig 3 . Tighten the transaxle beam outer bolts. Tighten the rear transaxle mount bracket bolts. Tighten the transaxle beam center bolts. See Fig 4 . Remove the transaxle jack from the transaxle.
- Install the shift cable guide bracket on the transaxle beam. See Fig 5 . Connect the transaxle range switch connector, then install the clamp to the harness bracket. See Figure .
- Install a new set ring in the extension shift groove. See Fig 6 . Install the extension shaft using the Installer. See Fig 7 . Remove the Installer. Fill opening between the secondary driven gear shaft and the extension shaft with high temp grease. See Fig 8 .
- Shift the transaxle to the "P" position by rotating the control shaft. Install the 36 mm sealing bolt. Clean the opening bore of the secondary gear shaft. Install the new "O" ring on the sealing bolt, then install them, and tighten the sealing bolt. See Fig 9 . Remove the steering gearbox mounting bolts, then install the lower plate. See Fig 10 .
- Install the control lever on the control shaft. See Figure . Install the shift cable holder on the shift cable holder base. Install the shift cable cover, and install the shift solenoid valve/A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve harness connector and clamp on the shift cable cove, then tighten the bolts.
- Connect the ATF cooler hoses to the ATF cooler lines. Install the ATF dipstick tube with a new "O" ring on the torque converter housing. Install the heat shields. See Figure . Install the exhaust pipe A and the three way catalytic converter, then the transaxle stop collar. See Figure .
- Push the secondary HO2S connector into the vehicle, then secure with the harness grommet, Install the secondary HO2S harness cover. Connect the secondary HO2S connector. See Figure . Install the transaxle housing mounting bolts. See Figure . Install the ATF dipstick tube bracket bolts. Connect the transaxle sub-harness connector. Install the control box.
- Install the strut brace. Refill the transaxle with the recommended ATF. See appropriate TRANSMISSION SERVICING article. Connect the battery positive and negative battery terminals. Set the parking brake. Start the engine, and shift the transaxle through all gears 3 times. Check the shift lever operation and the A/T gear position indicator operation.
- Let the engine reach normal operating temperature with the transaxle in the "N" or "P" position, then turn it off and check ATF level. Road test vehicle. Memorize the engine idle speed signal in the PCM. See appropriate COMPUTER RELEARN article in GENERAL INFORMATION.
NOTE:
Do not install the transaxle housing bolt on the engine stiffener side.
NOTE:
Push the extension shaft in the secondary driven gear shaft until the extension shaft stops.
