Gearshift Position Switch: 2.5TL

  1. Raise vehicle and remove transmission splash shield. Disconnect gearshift position switch connector. Using a DVOM, check for continuity between ground and specified terminals while moving gearshift lever to specified positions. See Fig 1 . See GEARSHIFT POSITION SWITCH TEST (2.5TL)  table. If switch tests okay, test is complete. If switch does not indicate continuity in any position, adjust switch and retest. See ADJUSTMENTS  . If one or more terminals do not indicate continuity, replace switch. See GEARSHIFT POSITION SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
GEARSHIFT POSITION SWITCH TEST (2.5TL)

Shifter Continuity Between Ground & Terminal No.
"1" 10
"2" 11
"D" 4, 8
"D4" 5, 8
"N" 6, (1) 9
"R" (2) 7
"P" 2, (1) 9
(1) This is neutral position switch circuit.
(2) Test back-up light switch between terminals No. 12 and 14.
