WARNING: Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM article. DO NOT apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy.

The cruise control unit receives command signals from cruise control main switch and cruise control SET/RESUME switch. Cruise control unit receives vehicle operating information from brakelight switch, Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS), and clutch switch (M/T) or A/T gearshift position switch (A/T). Ignition Control Module (ICM) also provides operating information to cruise control unit.

The cruise control unit compares actual vehicle speed to selected speed. Throttle is either opened or closed based upon this comparison. A signal from the brakelight switch will disengage system when brakes are applied. The clutch switch, gearshift lever position switch, and cancel switch will also send disengage signals to cruise control unit.
