Mainshaft Thrust Shim Measurement
1997 Acura 2.2CL StandardSECTION Mainshaft Thrust Shim Measurement
- Remove 72-mm thrust shim and oil guide plate from transaxle housing. Install assembled mainshaft in transaxle housing.
- Measure distance "A" between end of transaxle housing and thrust washer. Use a straightedge and feeler gauge to measure at 3 locations. Record average reading. See Fig 2.
- Measure distance "B" between surfaces of clutch housing and bearing inner race. Use a straightedge and feeler gauge to measure at 3 locations. Record average reading. See Fig 2.
- Select proper shim using this formula: "A" + "B" - .93 (.95 on Civic) = shim thickness. DO NOT use more than one shim. On Civic, Civic Del Sol and Integra, shims are available in .3 mm increments from sizes .0236-.0709" (.599-1.801 mm). On 2.2CL and 2.3CL, shims are available in .3 mm increments from .0472-.0933" (1.20-2.37 mm).NOTE: Clean thrust washer, spring washer and shim thoroughly before installation.
- Install selected shim in transaxle housing. Install thrust washer and spring washer on mainshaft. Install mainshaft in clutch housing. Place transaxle housing over clutch housing and tighten housing with several 8-mm bolts.
- To check thrust clearance, install Mainshaft Base (07GAJ-PG20130) over mainshaft and then install Mainshaft Holder (07GAJ-PG20110). Seat mainshaft fully by tapping mainshaft end with plastic hammer. Tighten mainshaft holder bolt until it just makes contact with wide surface of mainshaft base. See Fig 3.CAUTION: Turning shaft holder bolt more than 60 degrees after needle of dial gauge stops moving may damage transaxle.
- Zero dial gauge on end of mainshaft. Turn mainshaft holder bolt clockwise and stop movement when dial gauge reaches maximum movement. Clearance is correct if reading is .0043-.0071" (.11-.18 mm). If reading is not within limits, replace thrust shim with correct thickness. See Fig 3.
