Subaru Outback Coolant Type and Capacity
Choose your Outback's year, engine and trim before using a coolant quantity. The six examples below come from exact vehicle Fluids tables; they do not establish a specification for every Outback.
Safety Warning
Never open a hot or pressurized cooling system. Let the engine cool and follow the applicable fill and bleed procedure. If the existing product is unknown, confirm the vehicle specification and service history before topping up or mixing coolant.
What the checked manuals say
All six checked tables label engine coolant as SUBARU Super Coolant. The 2020 and 2024 Base 2.5L tables list 9.50 US qt, while the checked XT 2.4L tables list 9.20 US qt. In 2015, the checked 2.5i lists 8.20 US qt and the 3.6R Limited lists 7.40 US qt. These are approximate total system capacities, not guaranteed drain-and-refill amounts.
The earlier chart gave one capacity to a whole generation and suggested choosing by color or mixing 50/50 without identifying the product. The checked Fluids tables do not establish a universal mixing instruction or a quantity for unlisted years and variants. Use the exact manual and current Subaru product label for your vehicle.
