Buick LaCrosse serpentine belt routing

Start with the model year and engine. Buick's checked 2013 owner guide shows separate routing diagrams for its 2.4L four-cylinder and 3.6L V6. Its 2.4L belt replacement requires special tools. A belt length, replacement interval or pulley order for one engine should not be applied to every LaCrosse.

Checked 2013 engine choices

The 2013 Buick LaCrosse owner guide identifies engine VIN code R for the 2.4L L4 and 3 for the 3.6L V6 (Technical Data, pages 12-3 to 12-4). Page 12-4 has a routing diagram for each. Check the eighth VIN character and equipment before using either example.

2.4L L4, VIN R

Buick flags special tools for belt removal and installation. The checked hosted procedure names the EN-48932 hydraulic belt tensioner compressor and requires removal of the tensioner stop before the spring is compressed.

Use the separate 3.6L routing drawing in Buick's guide and the matching service-manual branch. The 2.4L special-tool procedure is not a 3.6L replacement instruction.

When to inspect or replace the belt

The checked 2013 maintenance guide says to inspect for fraying, excessive cracking or damage and replace the belt if needed. It also lists squeaking, cracking and splitting as reasons a belt may need attention. The old 60,000–90,000-mile answer on this page was not supported by that source. Use the schedule for your own year and diagnose a noise before ordering a belt or tensioner.

Tool to compare for the checked 2.4L

The 2013 2.4L hosted procedure names EN-48932. OTC's GM service-tool catalog lists its 6725 belt-tensioner compressor as similar to EN-48932 and lists 2012–2016 LaCrosse 2.4L eAssist among its applications. This is a tool-model search, not a verified Amazon listing. Match your VIN, engine and tool listing before purchase.

Read the exact service procedure before attempting the job. The tensioner stop must be removed before compressing the spring to avoid damage.
