Transmission Control Module (TCM)

A directly connected signal containing the actual gear selector position is sent from the Transmission Control Module (TCM) and used by the Engine Control Module (ECM) in the start function (activation of the starter motor). The same information is also sent via CAN, and thus gives redundancy.

The gear selector position can be read with the diagnostic tool.
