Power Mirror Position Sensor
- Remove door panel for access to electrical connector for appropriate power mirror. Disconnect 10-pin electrical connector for power mirror from wiring harness and note terminal identification in electrical connector at power mirror. Perform STEP 1 in illustration. See Fig 1.
- Connect a series of 3 (1.5 volt) dry cell batteries together and then using jumper wires, connect positive lead on dry cell batteries to terminal No. 7 and negative lead to terminal No. 6 on electrical connector at power mirror. Perform STEP 2 in illustration. See Fig 1. Connect positive lead of voltmeter to terminal No. 9 and negative lead to terminal No. 6 on electrical connector at power mirror. Perform STEP 2 in illustration. See Fig 1.
- Using jumper wires, apply battery voltage and ground to terminals No. 2 and 3 on electrical connector at power mirror. Perform STEP 2 in illustration. See Fig 1. Check that voltage reading on voltmeter gradually changes from 2.8-5.0 volts with power mirror at fully downward (lowermost) position to 0-1.8 volts with power mirror at fully upward (uppermost) position as the power mirror operates. Disconnect voltmeter and battery. If voltage readings are within specification, go to next step. If voltage readings are not within specification, replace power mirror assembly.
- With dry cell batteries still connected, connect positive lead of voltmeter to terminal No. 8 and negative lead to terminal No. 6 on electrical connector at power mirror. Perform STEP 3 in illustration. See Fig 1. Using jumper wires, apply battery voltage and ground to terminals No. 1 and 2 on electrical connector at power mirror. Perform STEP 3 in illustration. See Fig 1.
- On driver's side power mirror, check that voltage reading on voltmeter gradually changes from 2.8-5.0 volts with power mirror at left-most position to 0-1.8 volts with power mirror at right-most position as the power mirror operates. On passenger's side power mirror, check that voltage reading on voltmeter gradually changes from 0-1.8 volts with power mirror at left-most position to 2.8-5.0 volts with power mirror at right-most position as the power mirror operates. On all applications, disconnect voltmeter, battery and dry cell batteries. If voltage readings are within specification, power mirror position sensor is okay. If voltage readings are not within specification, replace power mirror assembly.
