Disconnect electrical connector from crankshaft position sensor. Crankshaft position sensor is located at front of crankshaft, near crankshaft pulley. See Fig 1.
Manufacturer recommends removing crankshaft position sensor before checking the resistance. Remove bolt and crankshaft position sensor.
Using ohmmeter, check resistance between electrical terminals on crankshaft position sensor. Replace crankshaft position sensor if resistance is not within specification. See DISTRIBUTORLESS TYPE IGNITION SYSTEM CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR RESISTANCE table.
Reinstall crankshaft position sensor. Install and tighten crankshaft position sensor bolt to 71 INCH lbs. (8.0 N.m). Reinstall electrical connector.

When to See a Mechanic

Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:

• You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.

• Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.

• The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.

• You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.

• You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
