Engine Controls - Sensor Operating Range Charts: Introduction

NOTE: For identification of ECM/PCM harness connectors and wire terminals, see PIN VOLTAGE CHARTS article.

Sensor operating range information can help determine if a sensor is out of calibration. An out-of-calibration sensor may not set a trouble code, but it may cause driveability problems.

For individual component and system diagnostic test procedures, see SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article.

CAMSHAFT POSITION (CMP) SENSOR VOLTAGE

Application PCM Connector/Terminal No. (1) Volts
Aerio (2.0) C46-10 & Ground (2) 0-5
Grand Vitara (2.5L) C51-3-9 & C51-3-20 (4) 0-6
Vitara (2.0L) C51-2-26 & C51-3-26 (3) 0-5.25
XL-7 (2.7L) C51-1-12 & C51-3-26 (4) 0-6
(1) Measured at PCM with ignition on.
(2) Voltage toggles from 0-1 volt to 4-6 volts (4-5 volts on Aerio & Esteem) as magnet is passed by sensor face (one mm distance).
(3) Voltage toggles from 0-1 volt to 4-6 volts as CMP sensor coupling is rotated.
(4) Voltage toggles from 0-1 volt to 4-6 volts as crankshaft is turned slowly.

CAUTION: Damage to MAP sensor will occur if connections are made incorrectly.
MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE (MAP) SENSOR OUTPUT VOLTAGE (AERIO)

Altitude (Feet) Vacuum (In. Hg) (1)(2) Volts
0-2000 28-30 3.3-4.3

5001-8000 22-25 2.7-3.7
8001-10,000 20-22 2.5-3.3
(1) For proper MAP sensor test procedure, see MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE SENSOR in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article.
(2) Voltage should drop in direct proportion to vacuum applied to MAP sensor port (up to 16 In Hg).
CAUTION: Blowing compressed air through mass airflow sensor will damage it.
