Disconnect harness connector from ignition coil. Remove ignition coil from valve cover. Using DVOM, measure resistance between terminals of ignition coil (primary resistance). See Fig 3 .
Using a 12-volt battery and an ammeter, measure secondary coil current. See Fig 4 . See IGNITION COIL RESISTANCE table. Ensure current does not flow with polarities reversed. Repeat for remaining ignition coils. Replace ignition coils if resistance or current is not as specified.

When to See a Mechanic

Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:

• You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.

• Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.

• The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.

• You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.

• You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
