DTC C0036, C0041, C0046 Or C0051: Wheel Speed Circuit Range Performance

C0036 - Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit

C0041 - Right Front Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit

C0046 - Left Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit

C0051 - Right Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit

  1. Turn ignition on, with engine off. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Disconnect scan tool. Drive vehicle at speeds greater than 40 MPH. Recheck DTCs. If DTC resets, go to next step. If DTC does not reset, problem is intermittent.
  2. Check wheel speed sensor circuit for open or short. Check sensor air gap and general sensor condition. Check for worn suspension or drivetrain components. Repair or replace as necessary. If no problems were found, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect EBTCM harness connector. Check resistance between each wheel speed sensor circuit at EBTCM harness connector. See WSS TEMPERATURE-VS-SENSOR RESISTANCEΒ  table. If resistance is as specified, go to step Β 6 . If resistance is not as specified, go to next step.
  4. If resistance is less than specified, go to next step. If resistance is greater than specified, disconnect affected wheel speed sensor. Check sensor continuity. If continuity exists, replace sensor. If continuity does not exist, repair open in wheel speed sensor circuit.
  5. Disconnect affected wheel sensor and check resistance between sensor circuit or sensor harness connector. If resistance is less than 2 ohms, repair shorted sensor circuit. If resistance is not less than 2 ohms, replace wheel speed sensor.
  6. Disconnect affected wheel speed sensor harness connector. Using a DVOM in AC scale, connect DVOM across wheel speed sensor terminals. Raise and support vehicle. Spin wheel about one revolution per second. If DVOM reading is less than 100 millivolts, replace wheel speed sensor. If DVOM reading is not less than 100 millivolts, check for terminal tightness at sensor and connector. Repair as necessary. If terminals are okay, replace EBTCM.
