Code 32: EGR System Error

1992 Saturn SC StandardSECTION Code 32: EGR System Error

If Code 26 is set with Code 32, diagnose Code 26 first and then clear codes and road test vehicle. If code reoccurs, use Code 32 chart to diagnose problem.

PCM verifies EGR function during a steady off-idle cruise (greater than 15 MPH) by grounding EGR drive circuit to energize solenoid and block off EGR vacuum source. This should result in a change in fuel control integrator. If a change is not seen by PCM, Code 32 is set.

NOTE: Test numbers refer to numbers on diagnostic chart.
  1. With ignition off, EGR solenoid should be open. Vacuum should pass through EGR solenoid and open EGR valve.
  2. With ignition on and ALDL test terminal "B" grounded, PCM will provide a ground for EGR solenoid. If power is present at solenoid, vacuum should now be blocked and EGR valve should not open.
  3. With no power or ground supplied to EGR solenoid, vacuum should pass through solenoid. If vacuum does not pass through solenoid, vacuum hoses or EGR solenoid filter are plugged or EGR solenoid is faulty.
