The steering column on Porsche models is a 3-piece, energy-absorbing unit. Intermediate shaft connects to steering rack and shaft with 2 universal joints.

The steering shaft offset design and the steering column collapsible section provide energy-absorbing protection.

An energy-absorbing steering wheel with rebound chambers and padded horn pad provides additional protection.
