IMPORTANT: It is necessary to record the remaining engine oil life. If the replacement module is not programed with the remaining engine oil life, the engine oil life will default to 100 percent. If the replacement module is not programmed with the remaining engine oil life, the engine oil will need to be changed at 5 000 km (3,000 mi) from the last engine oil change.

Using a scan tool, retrieve the percentage of remaining engine oil. Record the remaining engine oil life, if required.
Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (RPOs L26/L32) or Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (RPO LS4) .
Remove the left front inner fender brace. Refer to Brace Replacement - Front Fender Upper Diagonal .
Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement .
Disconnect the ECM electrical connectors (2).

Remove the ECM from the air cleaner lower housing.

When to See a Mechanic

Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:

• You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.

• Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.

• The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.

• You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.

• You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
