Key Switch Check
- Measure voltage by backprobing between Smart Entrance Control Unit (SECU) 24-pin connector terminal No. 32 (Black/Red wire) and ground. With ignition key inserted into lock cylinder, voltage should be about 12 volts. With ignition key removed from lock cylinder, voltage should be zero volts. If voltage is not as specified, go to next step. If voltage is as specified, key switch is okay.
- Disconnect key switch 2-pin connector located under steering column shroud. Check continuity between terminal No. 1 and 2. Continuity should be present with ignition key inserted into lock cylinder. Continuity should not be present with key removed from lock cylinder. If continuity is not as specified, replace key switch. If continuity is as specified, inspect the following:
- Fuse No. 12 (10-amp) located in fuse block under left side of instrument panel.
- Red/Black wire between key switch and fuse No. 12 for an open or short.
- Black/Red wire between key switch and SECU for an open or short.
