DTC P0453: Ftp Sensor Input High: Testing
NOTE:
Ensure freeze frame data has been recorded. Check for service bulletins and on-line information.
- Connect scan tool. Turn ignition on. Check FTP V PID. If PID is more than 4.9 volts, go to next step. If PID is 4.9 volts or less, problem is not present. Check for intermittent problem. See TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect FTP sensor connector. Check connector terminals. If no problem is found, go to next step. If connection or terminals are loose, damaged or corroded, repair as necessary and go to step Β 11 .
- Check continuity between sensor harness connector terminal "B" (Black/Orange wire) and ground. If continuity is not present, go to next step. If continuity is present, go to step Β 5 .
- Disconnect 3-pin connector, located about 3 inches from sensor, near charcoal canister. Check continuity between male 3-pin connector terminal "B" (Black/Orange wire) and ground. If continuity is not present, repair open circuit on Black/Orange wire between female 3-pin connector terminal "B" and FTP sensor terminal "B". If continuity is present, repair open circuit in Brown/Yellow wire between PCM terminal No. 91 and female 3-pin connector terminal "B". After repair, go to step Β 11 .
- Disconnect 3-pin connector, located about 3 inches from sensor, near charcoal canister. Check for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If no problems are found, go to next step. If any problems are found, repair as necessary and go to step Β 11 .
- Check continuity between male 3-pin connector terminals "A" (Red wire) and "C" (Pink/Blue wire). If continuity is not present, go to next step. If continuity is present, repair short across circuits between 3-pin connector and TP sensor. After repair, go to step Β 11 .
- Check continuity of Red wire between male 3-pin connector terminal "A" and FTP sensor connector terminal "A". If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair open on Red wire. After repair, go to step Β 11 .
- Disconnect PCM connector. PCM is mounted to passenger floor, behind glove box. Check connector terminals. If no problem is found, go to next step. If connection or terminals are loose, damaged or corroded, repair as necessary and go to step Β 11 .
- Check continuity between female 3-pin connector terminals "A" and "C". If continuity is not present, go to next step. If continuity is present, repair short across circuits between 3-pin connector and PCM. After repair, go to step Β 11 .
- Connect breakout box to harness connector. Do not connect PCM. Check continuity between female 3-pin connector terminal "A" (Red/Black wire) and breakout box terminal No. 62. If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair open on Red/Black wire between 3-pin connector and PCM. After repair, go to next step.
- Reconnect all components. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, clear DTC. Start engine. Ensure FTP V PID is .2-4.8 volts when ECT V PID is less than 176Β°F. Recheck DTCs. If DTC P0453 is pending, replace PCM and go to next step. If DTC P0453 is not pending, go to next step.
- Perform after repair procedure. See AFTER REPAIR PROCEDUREΒ . If no DTC is present, testing is complete. If any DTC is present, go to appropriate test for diagnosis and repair.
