NOTE:

Prior to removal of the GEM, it is necessary to upload module configuration information to a NGS Tester.

This information needs to be downloaded into the new module once installed. For additional information, refer to PROGRAMMABLE MODULE INSTALLATION - USING BACKUP DATA .

Disconnect the battery ground cable.
Remove the floor console. Refer to FLOOR CONSOLE -- HIGH SERIES , or FLOOR CONSOLE -- LOW SERIES .

Remove the GEM
1. Pull back the insulation and remove the nuts.
2. Remove the GEM.
  CAUTION:
  - Once the new GEM is installed, it is necessary to download the module configuration information from the scan tool into the new GEM. You must also configure the new GEM for dealer installed option. Please refer to applicable accessory installation procedures. For additional information; refer to MODULE CONFIGURATION .
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
1. Configure the GEM. Refer to PROGRAMMABLE MODULE INSTALLATION - USING BACKUP DATA .

When to See a Mechanic

Stop DIY work and contact a certified mechanic immediately if any of the following apply:

• You smell fuel, burning insulation, or see smoke.

• Brakes feel soft, pull hard to one side, or make grinding noises.

• The engine overheats, stalls repeatedly, or misfires under load.

• You are missing required tools, torque specs, or safe lifting equipment.

• You are not confident in the next step or safety outcome.
