NUMBER: 034
GROUP: Electrical
DATE: January 2012
MODEL: 2011/12MY Sorento (XM), Optima (TF/QF)
SUBJECT: REMOTE START SYSTEM DNA MODULE SOFTWARE UPGRADE
This bulletin provides information relating to some 20111/2012MY Sorento (XM) and Optima (TF/QF) vehicles that are equipped with the remote start option (Sorento P/N U8560 1U001/2 and Optima P/N 2T056 ADU00) as supplied from Job #1 to October 6, 2011. In some of these vehicles the Remote Start System may not always start the vehicle on the first attempt and when the start attempt fails the security system gets triggered. Once the security system is disarmed/unlocked a second attempt is required to start the vehicle. This bulletin provides a repair for this concern by replacing the DNA module in the Remote Start System with an updated version. (Remote Start Systems installed after October 6, 2011 use a new kit [Sorento P/N U8560 1U003 and Optima P/N 2T056 ADU01] that already incorporates this update).

Service Procedure:
1. Refer to the vehicle specific "Remote Engine Start" installation instructions to remove and isolate the negative battery cable from the battery and to access the Remote Start Control Module. Observe the DNA card service part number listed on the case top. If the part number is U8562 00011 for a Sorento or U8562 00012 for an Optima the DNA card will need to be replaced with updated software to correct the concern.

Sorento and Optima updated software versions shown in the illustrations.
NOTICE:
DNA module card service part number is listed on the case top.

2. Carefully remove the DNA/Software Card from the control module and replace with part number U8562 00016 for a Sorento or U8562 00017 for an Optima.
CAUTION:
Use care to ensure that both rows of the DNA/Software Card multi-pin connectors are aligned and seated properly.
3. System Power
Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Turn the ignition key to the "OFF" position.
4. Transmitter Programming Procedure:
1. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position. Do not start the engine.
2. Locate the "disarm/programming" button which is secured to the remote start wire harness behind the left lower dash panel.
3. Press and hold the "disarm/programming" button for 10-15 seconds until the horn beeps 3 times.
4. Release the "disarm" programming button.
5. Press the red Find/Panic button on the remote start transmitter one time. The horn will beep one time indicating that the transmitter code has been learned. Repeat for each additional transmitter.
6. Turn the ignition key to the "OFF" position.
5. Function Check:
Refer to the vehicle specific "Remote Engine Start" installation instructions for a complete list of functions to be verified before delivering the vehicle.
Troubleshooting:
Refer to the vehicle specific "Remote Engine Start" installation instructions for troubleshooting procedures if necessary.
