2023 Jeep Compass AltitudeSECTION Removal
  1. Remove the steering column opening cover. Refer to COVER, STEERING COLUMN OPENING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  2. Disconnect the two Electric Power Steering (EPS) module electrical connectors.

  3. Remove the two front steering column bolts (2).
  4. Remove the two rear steering column nuts (1), and lower the steering column (3).

  5. Place the steering wheel in a position which allows access to the intermediate shaft coupler pinch bolt (1).
  6. Remove and DISCARD  the intermediate shaft coupler pinch bolt (1) from the steering column end of the shaft.
  7. Secure the steering wheel with the tires in the straight ahead position.
    NOTE:

    Some vehicles may not be equipped with an internal locking shaft that allows the ignition key cylinder to be locked with the key. Alternative methods of locking the steering wheel for service will have to be used.

  8. Remove and DISCARD  the intermediate shaft coupler pinch bolt (3) from the steering gear end of the shaft.
  9. Slide the intermediate shaft coupler off of the steering gear.
  10. Slide the intermediate shaft coupler off of the steering column.
  11. Remove the intermediate shaft (2).
