Removal And Installation: Installation
To avoid serious or fatal injury on vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, airbags, airbag curtains, knee blocker, seat belt tensioner, impact sensor or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect the Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS)/negative battery cable assembly from the negative battery post, then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the SRS. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment.
- Connect the steering column wire harness connector (1a) to the Electronic Steering Lock (ESL) module (1b).
- Position the ESL module to the steering column and install new tamper-resistant screws (2a). Tighten the screws until the heads break off.
- Connect the steering column multifunction switch wire harness connector (1) to the multifunction switch.
- Install the steering column upper and lower shrouds. Refer to SHROUD, STEERING COLUMN, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Install the instrument cluster bezel. Refer to BEZEL, INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Connect the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), connect the IBS connector.NOTE:
If this Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is being replaced with a new unit, a diagnostic scan tool MUST be used to determine if alignment of the PROXI configuration data into the new ECU is needed. If PROXI alignment is needed, follow the routine outlined in the diagnostic scan tool for PROXI Configuration Alignment under the Body Control Module (BCM) Miscellaneous Functions menu.
- If the electronic steering lock module is replaced, connect the diagnosis scan tool to the vehicle Date Link Connector (DLC), go to "BCM" in the "Miscellaneous functions" menu and start the "Secret key transfer to the ECM/ESL" procedure.
