2009 Jeep Wrangler 4WD V6-3.8LSECTION Tightening Torques
CYLINDER HEAD
Tighten the cylinder head bolts 1-8 in the sequence shown in. Using the 4 step torque turn method, tighten according to the following values:
Step 1: Bolts 1 - 8 to 61 Nm (45 ft. lbs.)
Step 2: Bolts 1 - 8 to 88 Nm (65 ft. lbs.)
Step 3: Bolts 1 - 8 (again) to 88 Nm (65 ft. lbs.)
Step 4: Bolts 1 - 8 turn an additional 1/4 Turn. (Do not use a torque wrench for this step.)
NOTE: Bolt torque after 1/4 turn should be over 122 Nm (90 ft. lbs.). If not, replace the bolt.
HEAD BOLT REUSE/REPLACE
The cylinder head bolts should be examined BEFORE reuse. If the threads are necked down, the bolts must be replaced.
INTAKE MANIFOLD
Intake Manifold Lower - Bolts 23 Nm (200 in.lbs.)
Intake Manifold Upper - Bolts 12 Nm (105 in.lbs.)
MAIN BEARING CAP
Crankshaft Main Bearing Cap - Bolts 41 Nm + 1/4 turn (30 ft.lbs. + 1/4 turn)
Crankshaft Main Bearing Cap Cross Bolts (3.8L) 61 Nm (45 ft.lbs.)
ROD BEARING CAP
Install connecting rod bolts and tighten to 7 Nm (5 ft. lbs) initially. Tighten the bolts an additional 21 Nm (15 ft. lbs.) and then turn each bolt 90° to final clamping load.
CRANKSHAFT PULLEY
Crankshaft Damper - Bolt 54 Nm (40 ft.lbs.)
FLYWHEEL/FLEXPLATE
Flex Plate to Crankshaft 88 Nm (65 ft.lbs.)
Flywheel Bolts 81 Nm (60 ft.lbs.)
OIL PUMP
Oil Pump Cover Plate - Screws 12 Nm (105 in.lbs.)
EXHAUST MANIFOLD
Exhaust Manifold - Bolts 23 Nm (200 in.lbs.)
