Tire Monitoring System: Testing and Inspection

TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM

NOTE: Any DTC faults that are set in the WCM will remain active until the ignition key is turned OFF. If the ignition key was turned back ON, all DTC faults will still be in an active status, as long as the fault condition still exists. The DTC will become stored once the system recognizes that the faulted condition no longer exists. Always refer to the yellow TPM telltale lamp to diagnose the TPM system.

When diagnosing a tire pressure issue, check the yellow TPM telltale lamp in the instrument cluster during ignition key ON. If after 10 seconds, the yellow telltale is illuminating continuously, adjust the air pressure as necessary to that listed on the Tire Inflation Pressure Label (Placard Pressure) provided with the vehicle. After adjusting air pressure in a tire, allow approximately two minutes for the yellow telltale to go out. Inspect all the tires for leaks. A water "dunk tank" or other water test may be used as long as any water at the valve core is removed once the procedure is complete. The water can be easily expelled from the core area by pushing in on the core for several seconds, allowing escaping air to drive out any moisture. Re-inflate the tire if necessary. Always make sure the original valve stem cap is securely installed to keep moisture out of the sensor. If the yellow telltale is still ON continuously, refer to the appropriate diagnostic manual.

If the yellow TPM telltale lamp is flashing on/off for 75 seconds and then turns ON solid during key ON, a system fault was detected.
