Fluid - Transfer Case: Service and Repair

2008 Jeep Commander 4WD V6-3.7LSECTION Service and Repair






STANDARD PROCEDURE - FLUID DRAIN/REFILL





1. Raise vehicle.
2. Remove the bolts (1) holding the damper (2) to the rear case (3).




3. Remove the damper (1) from the rear case (2).




NOTE: The fill (2) and drain (3) plugs are both in the rear case.

4. Position drain pan under transfer case.
5. Remove drain and fill plugs and drain lubricant completely.
6. Install drain plug. Tighten plug to 20-34 Nm (15-25 ft. lbs.).
7. Remove drain pan.
8. Fill transfer case to bottom edge of fill plug opening with the required fluid. Fluid Type Specifications
9. Install and tighten fill plug to 20-34 Nm (15-25 ft. lbs.).




10. Install the transfer case damper (1) onto the rear case (2).




11. Install the bolts (1) to hold the damper (2) to the rear case (3). Tighten the bolts to 27 Nm (20 ft.lbs.).
12. Lower vehicle.
