2001 Jeep Cherokee Limited, RWDFACTORY OEM SERVICE PROCEDURE
Remote Keyless Entry Inoperative
NOTE:
Ensure power door locks operate correctly before proceeding with test.
- Remove batteries from Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter. Measure voltage of batteries. If voltage is less than 3 volts, replace batteries. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS. If voltage is 3 volts or greater, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure . Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, select THEFT ALARM, VTSS, MISCELLANEOUS then PROGRAM RKE. Follow scan tool instructions and program a transmitter to be used with vehicle. Operate door locks using transmitter. If door locks do not operate properly, go to next step. If door locks operate properly, program remaining transmitters. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY under PROGRAMMING. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect RKE module harness connector. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 2 (Pink wire) at RKE module harness connector. See Figure . If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Pink wire. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS. If voltage is 10 volts or greater, go to next step.
- Ensure all lights are off. Measure resistance between ground and terminals No. 3 and 9 (both Black wires) at RKE module harness connector. If all resistances are less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If any resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open in appropriate Black wire. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Using a jumper wire, momentarily ground terminal No. 5 (Dark Blue wire) at RKE module harness connector. If door lock motors actuate, go to next step. If door lock motors do not actuate, go to step 7 .
- Using a jumper wire, momentarily ground terminal No. 11 (Light Blue/Red wire) at RKE module harness connector. If door lock motors actuate, replace RKE module. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS. If door lock motors do not actuate, go to next step.
- Remove passenger's door panel. Disconnect passenger's door module harness connector C2. Measure resistance in circuit between terminal No. 2 at Passenger's Door Module (PDM) harness connector and terminal No. 5 at RKE module harness connector. See Figure and Fig 1 . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open in Dark Blue wire and/or Dark Blue/Pink wire between RKE module and PDM. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Measure resistance of Light Blue/Red wire between terminal No. 1 at passenger's door module harness connector C2 and terminal No. 11 at RKE module harness connector. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace RKE module. See REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open in Light Blue/Red wire. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
NOTE:
Unlock control circuit wire color changes from Dark Blue wire to Dark Blue/Pink wire at in-line harness connector, located in right side kick panel.
