2001 Jeep Cherokee Limited, RWDFACTORY OEM SERVICE PROCEDURE
Compass/Mini-Trip Odometer Incorrect Or Inoperative
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure . Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using scan tool, select BODY, ELECTRO/MECH CLUSTER, SYSTEM TEST then monitor Powertrain Control Module (PCM) status. If scan tool displays PCM ACTIVE ON BUS, go to next step. If scan tool does not display PCM ACTIVE ON BUS, perform NO RESPONSE FROM POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Raise and support vehicle. Start engine and place gearshift selector in forward gear. Using scan tool, monitor Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) while drive wheels are moving. If scan tool displays approximate wheel speed, replace CMTC. See COMPASS/MINI-TRIP COMPUTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS. If scan tool does not display approximate wheel speed, repair VSS signal related DTCs. See SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - CHEROKEE article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
