Incorrect Ambient Temperature Reading

  1. Disconnect and remove ambient temperature sensor. Sensor is located behind front bumper, right of center. Using DVOM, measure resistance between sensor terminals and compare with AMBIENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR SPECIFICATIONS  table. If sensor resistance is within specification, go to next step. If sensor resistance is not within specification, replace sensor. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
    AMBIENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR SPECIFICATIONS

    Ambient Temperature °F (°C) k/ohms
    32 (0) 29.3-36.0
    50 (10) 18.0-22.0
    68 (20) 11.4-13.6
    77 (25) 9.1-10.8
    86 (30) 7.4-8.7
    104 (40) 4.9-5.7
    122 (50) 3.3-3.8
  2. Close all vehicle doors and ensure all lights are off. Wait one minute. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and ambient temperature sensor connector terminal No. 1 (Black/Light Blue wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, go to step  6 .
  3. Reconnect ambient temperature sensor connector. Disconnect CMTC connector. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . Using DVOM, measure resistance between CMTC connector terminals No. 4 (Violet/Light Green wire) and No. 10 (Black/Light Blue wire). See Figure . Compare with AMBIENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR SPECIFICATIONS  table. If sensor resistance is not within specification, go to next step. If sensor resistance is within specification, replace CMTC module. See OVERHEAD CONSOLE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  4. Disconnect ambient temperature sensor. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and ambient temperature sensor connector terminal No. 1 (Black/Light Blue wire). If resistance is 20 k/ohms or greater, go to next step. If resistance is less than 20 k/ohms, repair partial short to ground in Black/Light Blue wire. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  5. Move ohmmeter lead to ambient temperature sensor connector terminal No. 2 (Violet/Light Green wire). If resistance is less than 50 k/ohms, repair partial short to ground in Violet/Light Green wire. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS. If resistance is 50 k/ohms or greater, repair short between Violet/Light Green wire and Black/Light Blue wire. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  6. Connect a jumper wire between ground and ambient temperature sensor connector terminal No. 1 (Black/Light Blue wire). Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and CMTC connector terminal No. 10 (Black/Light Blue wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open in Black/Light Blue wire. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
  7. Replace CMTC module. See OVERHEAD CONSOLE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Perform BODY VERIFICATION TEST  under VERIFICATION TESTS.
