Idle Switch
- The idle switch is incorporated in the idle speed control position sensor. Ensure switch is adjusted correctly. See ON-VEHICLE ADJUSTMENTS article. Disconnect idle switch connector. Using ohmmeter, check continuity between terminal No. 3 (Yellow/Green wire) and ground. See Figure and Figure .
- With accelerator pedal depressed, continuity should not exist. With accelerator pedal released, continuity should exist. If continuity is not as specified, replace idle switch.
- Measure power supply voltage from ECM to idle switch. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage between idle switch harness connector terminal No. 3 (Yellow/Green wire) and vehicle ground. Voltage should be 4 volts or more. If voltage is not within specification, turn ignition off.
- Disconnect ECM harness connector. Connect jumper wire between vehicle ground and terminal No. 7 (24-pin connector) on Federal models, terminal No. 17 (22-pin connector) on California models. See Figure . Using ohmmeter, check resistance between idle switch harness connector terminal No. 3 (Yellow/Green wire) and vehicle ground.
- If continuity does not exist, inspect and repair circuit as needed. If continuity does exist, substitute ECM with known good unit and retest.
