Control Relay (1.5L & 2.4L)
- Disconnect control relay connector. Using an ohmmeter, check continuity between relay terminals No. 1 and 4. See Fig 1 . If no continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is present, control relay is defective. Replace control relay.
- Check resistance between terminals No. 3 and 8, and terminals No. 2 and 8. Approximately 95 ohms resistance should be present. If resistance is not within specification, replace control relay.
- Check resistance between terminals No. 6 and 7. Approximately 35 ohms resistance should be present.
- Check continuity between terminals No. 5 and 7, then reverse leads. Continuity should exist in one direction only. If continuity exists in both or neither direction, control relay is defective.
- Apply battery voltage across terminals No. 6 (positive) and No. 7 (negative), while checking continuity between terminals No. 1 and 4. If continuity is present, control relay is okay. If continuity does not exist, replace control relay.
- Apply battery voltage across terminals No. 5 (positive) and No. 7 (negative), while checking continuity between terminals No. 1 and 2. If continuity is present, relay is okay. If continuity is not present, replace control relay.
